Speaker Bio
Úna Keightley is a Radiation Therapist from Ireland with over 25 years of frontline healthcare experience in oncology and advanced radiotherapy techniques. Alongside her clinical career, she has become a leading patient advocate, co-leading national advocacy for children with spina bifida. In 2025, this work successfully prompted the Irish government to establish a formal inquiry into substandard paediatric care — a landmark moment for transparency and accountability within Ireland’s health system.
Úna also serves on the Multistakeholder Advisory Board of ERDERA — the European Rare Disease Research Alliance — where she contributes to strengthening patient engagement and ethical standards in European research policy. Following a close family member’s diagnosis of fatty liver disease (MASLD/MASH), she has expanded her advocacy to include metabolic and liver health, promoting earlier detection, public awareness, and improved patient-clinician communication.
Her work focuses on ensuring that patient and family voices are embedded in decision-making, both nationally and across the EU. Drawing on her dual experience as a healthcare professional and family advocate, Úna bridges the gap between clinical practice, policy, and lived experience — working to make health systems more transparent, accountable, and centred on those they serve.
